POLOKWANE - 32-year-old Faithful Kgabo Mashia appeared briefly at the Polokwane Magistrates' Court on Monday, 02 June 2014. He was remanded in custody until 11 June 2014 to afford him an opportunity to apply for legal aid. His alleged accomplice is still on the run and police are hot on his heels.

It is alleged Mashia bludgeoned and stabbed to death his girlfriend's two-year-old son last week following a heated argument between the two inside her house. The squabble compelled the girlfriend to escape and seek for help, leaving her son and two siblings aged 10 and 14 years in the house.

The suspect allegedly crashed the two-year-old against the wall and cut his throat with a broken bottle. The 14 year-old brother intervened in an attempt to save his younger sibling and were stabbed on the head. The two-year-old was taken to Polokwane Provincial Hospital the same night but was certified dead the following day. The 14 year-old was admitted to hospital for medical treatment and later discharged.
