For the past week police in Mitchell’s Plain Cluster clamped down on criminals in their policing precinct . A total of 86 houses was search in the cluster. A  total of 433 suspects were arrested for various crimes at the eight station in the precinct.

A total of 203 suspects were arrested on cases relating to the possession of illegal drugs. These drugs include tik, heroin, mandrax and dagga.  The suspects subsequently appeared and will appear in several Magistrate’s Courts on drug related charges.

Police also clamped down on illegal liquor outlets, nine operation was held with  five suspects arrested on liquor related charges. A total 526 930 millilitres  of liquor were confiscated by the two stations, Grassy park and Steenberg SAPS. Twenty six(26) Integrated policing roadblocks were held throughout the cluster  and  fines to the amount of R11 300 were issued with five arrests. Nineteen(19) Suspects were arrested for crimes against woman and children.

Police in  Mitchell’s Plain Cluster confiscated three firearms and arrested four suspects for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as possession of prohibited firearm. From the suspects subsequently appeared and will still appear in a Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Two stolen/hi-jack vehicles was recovered in the cluster and two arrested for attempting hi-jacking and one for business robbery in Lansdowne precinct .

A total of 31 suspects were also  arrested on warrants of arrest on various crimes during  tracing operations. More suspects also made their appearance and will still make their appearances in a Magistrate’s Court after they were arrested on charges relating to assault, robbery, fraud,  drunk driving, possession of suspected stolen property, housebreaking and theft, murder, armed robbery etc.

Police are also engaging with their neighbourhood watches whilst patrolling in their respective areas. Street and court committees are actively involved in the continuous fight against crime.

The Cluster Commander  Major General Gregory Goss says police will continue clamping down on crime and the perpetrators thereof. Police will maintain their zero tolerance approach in the combatting and investigation of crime. Strengthening the partnership between the community and the police is high on the agenda as it is contributing to reducing of crime and the apprehension of  perpetrators thereof. Major General Gregory Goss is thanking members under his command and the respective communities in his precinct for a job well done during the past week.

Police is further appealing to the broader community to get involved in the reward system. This system allows any adult member of the community to become pro-actively involved in the prevention of crime. Crime and criminals can be reported and a reward could be received by the reporter.
