Media Statement PARKTOWN - The Provincial Management of SAPS in Gauteng has noted the viral video on social media about a woman accusing the police of inaction after she reported her daughter's father of kidnapping their child. It is reported that on 05 January 2026, the complainant reported the matter at Ivory Park Police Station and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit subsequently registered an enquiry. The commander of FCS unit personally interviewed the complainant on the same day and it was established that the parents have an agreement which has been in effect for the past three years. The father has, during school holidays, taken the child and then returns her on the agreed date. FCS then communicated with the father telephonically and he indicated that he will bring the child before schools opened on 14 January 2026 hence the registration of an enquiry. On 08 January 2026, the complainant came back to the police and reported that she got information that the father has traveled with the child to Congo. The enquiry was then changed into a case of kidnapping. FCS is in liaison with Interpol for further investigations and to trace both the father and daughter. The complainant is also kept abreast with any developments on the case. Ends
