KWAZULU-NATAL - On Thursday, 15 May 2025,the Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested a 29-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs in Pietermaritzburg. Acting on intelligence about an individual allegedly selling cocaine and dagga in the Scottsville Mall, the team launched a disruptive operation and proceeded to the said location. Upon searching the suspect, two bankies of cocaine were found in his possession. The police then escorted the suspect back to his residence for a further search where they uncovered three more bankies of cocaine and three litre bucket containing dagga. The suspect was arrested and subsequently charged with dealing in drugs. The total value of the seized drugs is estimated to be R4500-00 and R2570 cash believed to be proceeds of crime was also confiscated. The suspect is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on 16 May 2025. The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona extolled the members for the good work. “The swift action taken by the Hawks in this arrest exemplifies their commitment to rooting out drug-related crime in Pietermaritzburg and preventing the circulation of dangerous substances in the community,” he concluded.
