NELSPRUIT - A couple, Quinton Steyn (39) and Lizette Steyn (38), tragically lost their lives in a light aircraft crash near Botshabelo Airfield in Middelburg on Sunday, 18 May 2025, at approximately 16:00.

According to information at police disposal, the couple was reportedly travelling from Nelspruit to Middelburg, where they resided.

Police were summoned to the scene, along with other relevant stakeholders. Upon arrival, the aircraft was still on fire, and the two victims were burned beyond recognition.

At this stage, the cause of the crash is not yet known. Crashed Aviation Agencies were contacted, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
