POLOKWANE - As we continue to celebrate the youth month, the South African Police Service in Capricorn District celebrated youth month in style by participating in the top 4 soccer tournament match at Bergeneck village sports ground in Westenburg Policing area. On Sunday, 29 June 2025, the Provincinal Commander of Proactive Policing Brigadier Mhlongo, Westenburg Station Commander Colonel Shadikana Mokoena together with other stakeholders invited Ledwaba Tribal Council, Community Police Forum and Young Commumity On Patrol (YCOP) members, Public Prosecution delegates, Polokwane Municipality Community Safety and Faith-based Representatives from Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum. The event started at the sports ground with the participation of SAPS Capricorn District and Bergenek masters. The second phase was held at Mahlahlelane Bergenek dropping Center, where the SAPS interacted with the community members in discussing crime related issues. Provincial Head of Pro-active policing Brigadier Madala Mhlongo highlighted the importance of this gathering.-To celebrate youth strength, resilient and determination to create safer brighter future at Bergeneck. Participation in this tournament shows the positive change. The youth has the power to show up the world by reporting and preventing any criminal activities within their vicinity. He emphasized on the stock theft cases, particularly at the Bergenek area. The youth of today must stay away from drugs and alcohol abuse. The sporting activities and education are the tools to change and pave the future in the right direction . During the event, Brigadier mentioned crime trends.
*Child neglect Colonel Mokoena spoke firmly to members of the community and urged them to foster the relationships between law enforcement and youth. Encouraged physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship. To create job opportunities through identification of various sports talents.
SAPS has various units including , Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) explained fully on what the Sexual Offences is, and encouraged parents and guardians to report those GBV/F related incidents. The Chairperson of Community Policing Forum at Saps Westenburg Ms. Mabotse Mothiba donated and distributed blankets, and food parcels to the community members including employees of dropping centre as a token of appreciation. In conclusion, the Station Commander of Westenburg Colonel Mokoena was honoured with a birthday surprise cake from the coordinators and community policing forum.
