GQEBERHA - In an effort to involve religious fraternity in enhancing community-orientated policing, the Spiritual Crime Prevention leadership was officially elected in Nelson Mandela Bay District. The formal election of NMB District Spiritual Crime Prevention Committee took place at George Botha Community Hall in Bethelsdorp on Thursday, 17 August 2023.

The Spiritual Crime Prevention body was elected and inducted to fulfil the following strategic pillars:

Pillar One: Strengthening of family structures;

Pillar Two: Establishment of crime prevention support desks in Faith Based Organisations;

Pillar Three: Youth Development;

Pillar Four: Moral Regeneration and

Pillar Five: Prison Ministry and Community Offender re-integration.

The ten-member leadership of Spiritual Crime Prevention, under Chairmanship of Pastor Luvuyo Rheze, was fairly elected in the presence of SAPS management, Community Policing Forum and other stakeholders. The newly elected Chairperson, from KwaNobuhle policing precinct, promised to lead to the right direction in ensuring harmony in the communities of the Nelson Mandela Bay District.

Provincial Head for Visible Policing, Brigadier Nomvuyo Mrwebi, who represented SAPS Provincial Management welcomed the new leadership of Spiritual Crime Prevention. "As SAPS management, we are happy to have this kind of body to assist in the fight against crime, especially on the part of moral regeneration. This is an indication that religious leaders and their congregations are prepared to take centre stage and lead at the forefront in the fight against crime within the society." - she said.
