WESTERN CAPE - Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile has pass on good wishes to the investigating officer and prosecution team for ensuring the captivity of the perpetrator.

Initial reports reveal that on 03 June 2022, the complainant was in his shop in Albert Street, Woodstock, assisting a client when unknown armed men entered the shop with the security guard at gunpoint. The complainant was instructed to lie down and give the keys of the cabinet where all cellular telephones were kept. The suspects then loaded all cellular telephones in a bag. They locked the complainant inside the shop and fled the scene. The complainant managed to free himself and ran after the suspects. The victim saw a few of the suspects jumping into a motor vehicle but one of them could not get in. The victim then ran after the one who ran down the street and he was assisted by the community members to apprehend the suspect.  Police members were then called for assistance and the 27-year-old suspect was arrested and some of the cellular telephones were recovered. The suspect was charged with business robbery.

The investigating officer Detective Sergeant Joseph Edson stood his grounds during bail application and proved beyond reasonable doubt that the suspect was not eligible to be released as he was flight risk. Xolela Mobo was then remanded in custody and ultimately found guilty on Tuesday 11 February 2025 on a charge of business robbery. The Magistrate remanded the case until Monday 17 February 2025 when he sentenced 30-year-old Xolela Mobo to an effective 12 years' in prison.
