POLOKWANE - The Mopani District Vala Umgodi Task Team conducted an intelligence-driven operation on Friday, 8 August 2025, at approximately 07:00 at the Kubjanane River in Enable Village.

Officers approached the scene in a tactical manner and apprehended four suspects who were allegedly illegally mining sand in the area. The suspects attempted to flee, but four were arrested at the scene. Seized during the operation were two trucks, shovels, and picks.

The suspects will face charges of illegal mining of sand.

The South African Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating illegal mining and protecting natural resources and will pursue all viable leads to ensure accountability.
