PORT ELIZABETH - A 46-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon, 09 February 2020 for the alleged murder of his 39 year old girlfriend in Motherwell.

It is alleged that on 08 February 2021, Nomfuneko Mdwayi dropped off her 5-year-old child at family in Kwazakele and went back to her house in Hlobo Street NU 5 in Motherwell.  It is further alleged that she was meeting her boyfriend. Since then, her family was unable to contact her as her cellphone was off. At about 14:00 on 09 February 2020, her brother went to her house and saw that it was locked and her vehicle missing from the garage. He entered the house using a spare key and breaking open the burglar guard gate.

Ms Mdwayi was found dead in the bath tub. Four television sets, a microwave and a blender was missing from the house. There were no signs of forced entry into the house.

Police suspect that she may have been strangled however a post mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. At about midnight, her white Ford Ecosport was found abandoned in Jack Street in Missionvale. The motive for murder is unclear at this stage.

Her boyfriend was detained for further questioning.
