KEI BRIDGE – District women, together with external stakeholders, embarked on Operation Basadi in the Kei Bridge area and conducted a roadblock on the N2 near Kei Bridge on Friday, 29 August 2025.

During the roadblock, two suspects aged 34 and 38 were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. With the assistance of Traffic Officers, fines amounting to R52,300 were issued to motorists who failed to comply with traffic regulations.

As part of the crime prevention strategy, the team proceeded into nearby villages where they conducted door-to-door awareness campaigns and distributed pamphlets on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), Sexual Offences, and crimes against the elderly. They also carried out stop-and-search operations and inspected liquor outlets for compliance. Two liquor outlets were closed, liquor was confiscated, and the owners, aged 25 and 35, were arrested.

The operation was a success, reaffirming the commitment of the SAPS to ensuring the safety and security of all people in South Africa by tackling issues that threaten community well-being.
