NELSPRUIT  - A 21-year-old male was arrested on Tuesday, 02 September 2025, in the Boiketlo area in Casteel following an investigation into a firearm-related incident.

It is alleged that on  Saturday night, 30 August 2025, the suspect pointed a firearm at a security guard, stationed at a local school in Casteel. A swift investigation by the Detectives led to the arrest of the suspect.

Upon searching the suspect's residence, Police discovered a firearm with its serial numbers filed off, and in addition, three ammunition were found hidden under the bed. The firearm was seized and it will undergo ballistic testing to determine if it was not used for commission of crime elsewhere.

The suspect is facing charges of possession of unlicenced firearm with ammunition, as well as for pointing a person with a firearm. The suspect is expected to appear at the Acornhoek Magistrate's Court today,
Wednesday, 03 September 2025.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed gratitude for the arrest made by the members, as well as the recovery of the firearm with ammunition.
