Media Statement from Eastern Cape Media Centre KING WILLIAM’S TOWN- Butterworth Regional Magistrate Court convicted and sentenced 21-year-old Aviwe Falakhe to 15 years imprisonment for rape of a 13-year-old girl. The allegation is that the accused met the victim while she was from church on 20 April 2014 at about 06:00 at Esingeni Location Rwantsana Village Centane. The accused, who was armed with a battle axe, threatened the victim and forced her to go to a homestead where she was repeatedly raped. The accused released her the next morning, 21 April 2014. A case of rape was opened at Centane Police Station. The case was investigated by the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. The accused was traced and arrested. He was charged with rape. He was convicted and sentenced on a rape charge on Wednesday 28 October 2015. The name of the accused has been registered in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
