WESTERN CAPE - Ongoing efforts to combat gang violence and to make a breakthrough in organized crime yield success during weekend operations in the Cape Town communities.

Members of Operation Shanela were conducting stop and search operations in Brown’s Farm when they searched a male in Desmond Tutu Road and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number with ammunition. The 22-year-old male could not produce a firearm license or permit to possess the firearm and was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Furthermore, Operation Shanela members deployed in Delft area, arrested a 27-year-old male when they received information about a suspect who is in possession of a firearm. The members apprehended the suspect fitting the description in Longmead Street, Roosendal, and found a 038 Special revolver with six rounds of ammunition in his possession. He faces a charge for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ Courts.
