JEFFREY'S BAY - Alertness and vigilance are crucial elements during any operational activity, as witnessed yesterday during routine patrols that were conducted along the N2 near Jeffreys Bay. Members from the SAPS Humansdorp K9 Unit arrested three (03) suspects, for conspiracy to commit abalone poaching. On Tuesday, 18 November 2025, members attached to Humansdorp K9 Unit were patrolling along the N2 National Road, near Jeffrey's Bay when they noticed a suspicious Opel Astra, and pulled it off the road. On searching the vehicle, police found bags with diving equipment and tools for abalone poaching. Police seized the following items: - Seventeen (17) diving goggles - Five (05) torches - Seventeen (17) pairs of diving boots - Seventeen (17) pairs of flippers - Fourteen (14) backpacks - Fourteen (14) waist bags - Seventeen (17) chucking tools The vehicle was confiscated for further investigation. The three (3) male occupants aged between 30, and 50 were arrested for contravening the Marine Living Resources Act, Act 18 of 1998, and with an additional charge of contravention of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (POCA), Act 121 of 1998. The suspects are due to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrate’s court soon. Ends
