On 12 September 2016, Inanda police embarked on an intelligence driven operation searching for murder suspects where they arrested four suspects.  Police were searching for suspects responsible for the death of the taxi boss, Sphamandla Mkhulisi (43), who was gunned down in April 2016 at a taxi rank, Ezimangweni.  Mkhulisi was with a friend when a vehicle with unknown gunmen fired shots at them, fatally wounding him and injuring his friend.  She was taken to hospital for medical attention.  A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at Inanda police station for investigation.

Police investigation led them to Bhambayi area, Inanda where they arrested three suspects and they proceeded to Nkandla area. They found another suspect who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm with five live rounds of ammunition. Suspects aged between 21 and 39 were charged for murder and one of them was also charged for possession of firearm and ammunition. They will appear at the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court soon. The recovered firearm will be subjected for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the killing of Mkhulisi and other crimes in the country. Suspects will also be profiled to determine if they can be linked to other taxi-violence related cases.
