FREE STATE - The Phuthaditjhaba police are requesting community assistance following an alleged house robbery during which a couple was shot and injured at Mphatlalatsane Village near Phuthaditjhaba in the early hours of the morning.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, 16 December 2025 at approximately 03:20, the couple was asleep at their residence when three unknown suspects wearing balaclavas forcibly broke open the front door and gained entry into the house. The suspects allegedly demanded money from the victims.

The husband reportedly attempted to fend off the suspects using a spade; however, both he and his wife were shot during the incident. The suspects then robbed the victims of two cellphones, a television set, identity documents, and bank cards before fleeing the scene on foot.

Both victims were rushed to hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Police have opened a case of house robbery and two counts of attempted murder, which is currently under investigation.

Anyone with information that may assist in the arrest and conviction of the suspects is urged to contact the Phuthaditjhaba Detective Service Commander, Colonel Pudumo Milela, on 079 889 3311, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
