Media Statement UNIONDALE - A 58-year-old man found himself behind bars after an unlicensed firearm was found in his possession during a crime combatting operation along the N9 near Uniondale. On Saturday, 24 January 2025 at about 10:30, Uniondale and Willowmore police conducted a roadblock in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies on the N9 when the members noticed a vehicle making a U-turn upon approaching the roadblock. The vigilant members pursued the vehicle and brought it to a halt and a search ensued leading to the discovery of a revolver. The driver of the vehicle was unable to account for his possession thereof and the firearm was confiscated. Police arrested the man on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The suspect remains in police custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Uniondale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 January 2026, on the mentioned charges. This arrest and confiscation form part of the ongoing commitment of police to remove unlicensed firearms which threatens the safety of society from the streets. Similar operations will be conducted at entry and exit routes to the region in an effort to eradicate trafficking of unlicensed firearms, illicit goods and stolen property. Ends
