POLOKWANE - A 34-year-old foreign male suspect was arrested by the police in Mahwelereng in connection with possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and contravention of the Immigration Act on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

Police received information about a suspect who was in possession of a firearm and ammunition at Extension 71 outside Polokwane and an intelligence driven operation was executed to locate the suspect.

The suspect was subsequently found at an identified house in the area and police during the search they found a firearm together with ammunition.  

A 34-year-old suspect could not provide a valid license to possess the firearm and was placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Furthermore, police also discovered that the suspect was in the country illegally, and Contravention of Immigration Act was added during his apprehension.

Police continued with the operation and managed to arrest a 31-year-old foreign male suspect for being in the country illegally while at a rental residence.

The two Zimbabwean nationals are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate court soon.

Police investigations are continuing.
