DURBAN - On Thursday,11 February 2025 police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested two suspects aged 39 and 59 in Pietermaritzburg for cases of robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Reports indicate that on Sunday, 1 February 2026, a man was at Slangspruit area where he was allegedly robbed of his firearm by a person known to him. A case of robbery was subsequently registered at Alexandra Road police station. Members from Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad received information of the whereabouts of the suspect in the firearm robbery case. The suspect was arrested in Bhobhonono area in Sweetwaters, his licensed firearm, which was the weapon used to commit the robbery, was seized. The suspect informed police officers that he gave the firearm that he had robbed to his friend to keep it for him.

Police officers proceeded to the Pietermaritzburg Central Business district where they recovered the firearm from the suspect’s friend who is a clerk in one of the police’s units.

Both the arrested suspects were charged and will appear at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Friday, 13 February 2026.
