BLOEMFONTEIN - The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit conducted various operational concepts and dealt drug trafficking a massive blow as they stripped the streets of Heidedal off large quantities of drugs. Operators executed formal search warrants (J51) at different identified drug posts. The first suspect, a 40-year-old male, was found in possession of 'Rock' (Cocaine) with an estimated street value of R75 000 along with cash believed to be proceeds of drugs sale. The second suspect, 27-old-male, was found in possession of large quantities of Dagga packaged to be sold in plastics, valued at approximately R60,000, and additional cash. Operation continued, and two other drug dealers were arrested in a blitz. During a search, operators uncovered a massive stockpile of various drugs such as Khat, Chrystal Meth and Mandrax with estimated combined street value of R580 000 and a significant amount of cash. A 38-year-old suspect was tactically accosted, and a cache of drugs seized from the school bag he was carrying. Two more suspects were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs as tactical interventions continued, and intelligence was operationalised. A 45-year-old male was found in possession of large quantities of Tik valued at approximately R50 000. Chrystal Meth and Mandrax tablets with estimated street value of R85 000 were seized, and the 18-year-old suspect was apprehended. Bethlehem Public Order Police Unit conducted disruptive actions in Petsana - Reitz. A search was conducted at an identified drug post and 2 000 Mandrax tablets were seized; two suspects, a male and female, were arrested and charged for Dealing in drugs. Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein carried out crime prevention actions in Xhariep District and seized Mandrax, Chrystal Meth and dagga weighing at 3.444 kilograms. Policing actions continued in Thabo Mofutsanyane District where Welkom Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 49-year-old following a tip-off from Tseki community. A house was searched in Monontsha village and a 9mm caliber Black pistol, a magazine and ammunition were seized. High-density deployment actions continued in other different parts of the province. During the activities; 868 licensed liquor premises were inspected, 767 litres of alcohol were confiscated for selling liquor whilst not being duly registered to do so. 147 second-hand dealerships were inspected and 14 written notices were issued. 838 firearms inspections were conducted at non-official institutions, and 50 scrapyards were visited. More Operation Shanela II are planned to be carried out by integrated forces in identified crime hot spots throughout the Free State Province. Ends
