WESTERN CAPE - A joint operation between the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Task Team led to the recovery of a firearm, ammunition and presumable stolen goods in Mfuleni and Khayelitsha on Monday 16 February 2026.The team targeted suspects that are alleged to be terrorising communities in both areas, starting at an address in Mfuleni. They searched the suspect’s house and found a .38 Special revolver firearm with six rounds of ammunition. A 45-year-old male was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members proceeded to the second address in Khayelitsha where they found a 34-year-old male with 29 rounds of ammunition and dairy products, believed to be stolen. He was arrested for possession of ammunition and possession of presumable stolen property.

The suspects will appear in the Blue downs and Khayelitsha Magistrate’s court, once they have been charged.

In an unrelated incident, Flying Squad members responded to reports of a shooting in Hanover Park this morning. They patrolled around the area and noticed a suspicious male, running from the direction where gunshots were reported. They chased the suspect on foot and he threw away a firearm without a serial number while fleeing. Police recovered the firearm and booked it in as evidence while investigation continues.
