EASTERN CAPE - A 57-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Gqeberha High Court on 16 February 2026 for the kidnapping and rape of a 10-year-old child in Seaview during September 2024.

The victim was approached while walking to her aunt’s home and was lured to the accused’s shack, where the crime was committed. With community assistance, the suspect was arrested in October 2024 and remained in custody throughout the trial.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata, welcomed the sentence, commending the FCS investigating officer for her dedication and emphasising SAPS’ commitment to protecting children and ensuring perpetrators of crimes against minors face the full might of the law.
