NORTHERN CAPE - A joint operation by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigating team and Hopetown Detectives resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 29 and 41 earlier today, 13 March 2026 for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition

Information was received by the team regarding a suspect who was in an unlawful possession of a firearm at 43 Goutrou Street, Hopetown.

A search and seizure warrant was executed at the above-mentioned address, and the team found a pistol with rounds of ammunition. The suspects were immediately apprehended and detained at Hopetown police station.

A 6.5mm Browning pistol, a 303 rifle round and 1x .22 magnum rifle round were confiscated for further investigation.

Both suspects are expected to appear before Hopetown Magistrates' Court on Monday, 16 March 2026
