Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM - The police in Coligny have launched an investigation following the attack of a farmer’s wife, aged 50, at a farm near Coligny. It is reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, at approximately 16:30, when an unknown man wearing a balaclava allegedly attacked the victim. The victim had left her residence to feed a horse at the stables when the suspect attacked her from behind with steel object. The victim managed to fight off the suspect, who subsequently fled the scene on foot. She sustained injuries during the incident, and she was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment where she was discharged the same day. A case of assault with intent to course grievous bodily harm (Assault GBH) has been registered for investigation. The motive for the attack is currently unknown; no arrests have been made at this stage investigations are ongoing. The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Nadioo, has strongly condemned the incident and reiterated that crimes targeting farming communities remain a priority for the police.
