POTCHEFSTROOM - On 18 March 2026 the Vryburg Regional Court sentenced Orapeleng Oneboy Mokgweetsi(32) to ten years imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old teenager.

On 25 December 2018, the accused went to the victim’s residence and requested her to call his girlfriend. When the girlfriend could not be located, the accused threatened the victim with a knife and accused her of causing his girlfriend to be unfaithful.

He forcefully took the victim to his residence and raped her. The victim reported her ordeal to her aunt. A case of rape was registered at Vryburg Police Station for investigation, and the accused was apprehended on 26 December 2018.

Orapeleng was found guilty of rape, and the court ordered his name to be registered in the National Register for sex offenders.

The case was investigated by Detective Constable Tshidiso Kgwasi of Vryburg Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS)

The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the member for his dedication and commitment in securing a conviction. He further stated that this outcome not only reflects thorough investigation but also underscores the committed to supporting survivors and delivering justice.
