Media Statement The South African Police Service and the Namibian Police held the quarterly multi-disciplinary cross border crime prevention meeting on 29 August 2023 at the Westdene Stadium boardroom in Keetmanshoop, Namibia. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner for Policing in Namibia, Commissioner Kauhanda, co-chaired by SAPS Northern Cape Provincial Head for Operational Response Services, Brig Monica Sebili and also in attendance was the SAPS Northern Cape Provincial Head for Organized Crime, Brig Johan Myburgh, representatives from Border Management Authority (BMA), SARS Customs and Excise unit, Namibian Roads Agency (NAMRA), Department of Agriculture and other relevant role-players. Discussions around enhancing service delivery at Ports of Entries (POE) namely Nakop, Rietfontein, Alexander Bay, Vioolsdrift and Onseepkans that borders on South Africa and Namibia were held. Sendlingsdrift POE was closed down during the Covid-19 pandemic but will officially be reopened on Friday, 01 September 2023. The team also honed in on the proliferation of firearms, drugs, undocumented persons, stock theft, tampering of essential infrastructure, illegal trafficking of goods and all other relevant criminal activities that takes place on ports of entries and surrounding areas. Crime overview presentations were delivered by the SAPS and NAMPOL. All role players pledged their continued support to all the crime fighting structures at this platform of accountability for crime fighting organizations. Collective cross border operations will continue in South Africa and Namibia to ensure that our communities and all border posts are safe and secure. Ends
