CAPE TOWN - Police members of Operation Restore deployed in Mfuleni area, confiscated drugs and liquor on Saturday, 19 August 2023 during high-density crime prevention duties performed in the area.

While deployed in Mfuleni area, the members received information of drugs being kept at a premises in Washington Street, New Beginnings and Sandile Street, Bardale, Mfuleni. The information was operationalised and both premises were searched. A 58-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of tik and mandrax at the first premises while an adult male person was arrested for possession of tik at the other premises.  

A total of 70 mandrax tablets were confiscated at Washington Street and 46 packets of tik at Sandile Street.

Once charged, both suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges. 

At a premises in 23 Covid informal settlement in Driftsands, members arrested a 50-year-old man on charges of dealing in liquor without a license following an assortment of beers and liquor which were found on the premises.  The suspect is due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court on Monday, 21 August 2023 on the mentioned charges. All exhibits were handed in at Mfuleni SAPS.

At a premises in Kwazulu Street, Masiphumulele informal settlement, Ocean View, a 22-year-old undocumented person was arrested on a charge of dealing in dagga. The members found and confiscated 27 parcels dagga, four bags with loose dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 August 2023 on the afore-mentioned charges.

On Friday 18 August 2023 at 17:30, members attached to Provincial Operation Restore proceeded to Gugulethu SAPS when they came across a hijacked vehicle of which the engine was still warm but with no suspects in sight. The abandoned vehicle was found stationary at NY 64 next to a market in Gugulethu and when tested the vehicle was positively linked to a hijacking that occurred earlier in Delft The owner was located whilst busy opening a case at Delft SAPS.

The vehicle was taken to Bellville South for further forensic investigation.
