Media Statement from North West Media Centre Potchefstroom: A 44-year-old suspect is due to appear in Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 27 January 2016, on charges of robbery and theft. The suspect appeared initially in court on 14 and 18 January 2016, after he was arrested on Tuesday, 12 January 2016, in Jouberton outside Klerksdorp. On Monday, 11 January 2016, police were following leads after a case was opened wherein victims were robbed of a substantial amount of cash and other belongings in Tswelelang location, Wolmaransstad. The suspect was identified, tracked and eventually apprehended in Jouberton. The police believe that the suspect may possibly be linked to several other cases that were reported in the area in which the same method was used. According to the information available at this stage, unsuspecting second hand car buyers, live animals and other consumers are targeted. The suspect(s) would then promise better deals and lure the potential buyers into certain houses in Tswelelang location, Wolmaransstad. It is alleged that while in the sale process, unknown suspect(s) believed to be operating with the arrested suspect would intervene, pretending to be police officials and thereafter rob the buyer(s) of their personal belongings including cash as well as cell phones before fleeing the scene. The police request all people who were robbed in the same way by unknown suspect(s) using a maroon BMW sedan between late 2015 and January 2016, to contact Major Kgosi Dihemo on 082 773 0630. The community is once more requested to exercise caution when doing major and private transactions. They are advised to deal with registered and reputable companies to avoid distraction from their initial plans. -End- Media Enquiries: Major Pelonomi Makau Mobile: 082 856 0932
