FREE STATE - Members of Welkom Flying Squad followed up on information about suspects involved in criminal activities, travelling in a charcoal BMW to Free State through Hoopstad.

The information was operationalised on 15 December 2023 at about 18:50, whereby a way-lay was conducted at the crossing of Wesselsbron /Bultfontein /Bothaville / Welkom. The vehicle came travelling from Hoopstad and the driver was instructed to stop to search the vehicle.

Two firearms and 21 live round of ammunition were found inside the boot and seized.  The four suspects aged 32 to 37 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions. The BMW was also seized.

The four suspects will appear in Wesselsbron Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.
