Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre Phoenix police arrested a 53-year-old male for stabbing and injuring a police officer near the sports grounds. It is alleged that on 23 February 2016 at about 05:12, a Warrant Officer stationed at SAPS Wills Road, Durban who resides in the Phoenix area was at the bus stop in Rydalvale, waiting for transport to work. He was allegedly approached by a male and an argument ensued, when he walked away the said male stabbed him several times. The victim managed to contact the police who arrived and took him to hospital for medical attention. He was admitted and is in a critical but stable condition. The suspect was apprehended and detained when he arrived at the Phoenix police station to report an armed robbery incident. He will be charged for attempted murder and will appear at the Verulam Magistrates’ Court tomorrow. KwaZulu-Natal-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the attack on the police officer. “We will thoroughly investigate the case and send a well prepared docket so that the suspect can be successfully convicted and receive a befitting sentence for his deeds,” she said.
