Western Cape: On Tuesday (2016-04-05) Grassy Park SAPS Crime Prevention members, sector managers and crime information officers were busy with crime intelligence operations in the Grassy Park Area.

At about 01:35 members received information of drugs being sold at Regent Place, Ottery. Upon arriving at, and searching the premises and a suspect on site, SAPS members found 50 whole and 20 half of mandrax tablets in his possession. The 20 year old male was arrested on charges of dealing/ alternatively possession of drugs.

At about 09:00  the sector manager of sector 2, Grassy Park received information of a suspect robbing people in 8th Avenue, Grassy Park with a firearm. Members followed up the information and found the suspect fitting the description in 8th Avenue, Grassy Park. They searched the 23 year old suspect and found 1x imitation black firearm as well as a crushed mandrax tablet and one tik lolly containing traces of tik on him.  He was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm as well as possession of drugs.

At 14:30 members were busy with crime intelligence operations in the Parkwood Area with an unmarked police vehicle when they noticed a blue Honda Ballade, with no registration plates in Acacia Road, Parkwood. Members stopped the vehicle; both occupants of the vehicle are known as members of the alleged “Yuru Cats” gang in Ottery. Upon closer observation the SAPS members saw the passenger, throwing something under his seat. Upon searching the vehicle members found under the front seat a black 9mm Makarov pistol of which the serial number was filed off and five 9mm rounds as well as 30 mandrax tablets. Both suspects aged 29 and 26 were arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of mandrax tablets, possession of ammunition and driving without a license and an unlicensed vehicle.

All suspects will appear on related charges in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court soon.

Station Commander Shawn Van Wyk is thanking members under his command for apprehending the suspects and the community for supplying information.
