Media Statement from Northern Cape Media Centre Kimberley SAPS are investigating two separate cases of motor vehicle theft after the arrest of two Free State men. On Tuesday, 14 June 2016 at about 11:00 a blue Toyota bakkie was stolen at a shopping complex in Monument Heights, Kimberley. The second vehicle, a blue Nissan 1 tonner bakkie was stolen one hour later in front of the owner’s house (parked as for sale) in Aristotle Ave in Herlear, Kimberley. The police notified Boshof SAPS about the two stolen vehicles. The Boshof Police spotted the Nissan bakkie being towed by a Toyota Camry approximately 10km outside Boshof. The vehicles stopped next to the road and the driver of the Nissan bakkie fled into the veldt. The driver of the Camry allegedly untied the bakkie and sped off towards Boshof. He was arrested by Boshof SAPS members at a petrol station in town, minutes later. After a long search the Kimberley Visible Policing Unit and the Kimberley Flying Squad arrested the driver of the stolen Nissan bakkie at approximately 18:00 in the veldt not far from Boshof. Police also found the Toyota Hilux bakkie abandoned on the same road, not very far from Kimberley. It is alleged that two other suspects are still at large. The arrested suspects are 32 and 34 years old and should be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court soon. The investigation continues. -Ends- Enquiries: Captain Sergio Kock: 082 494 9982
