GAUTENG- Two Police officers aged (33) and (39) are due to appear before the Vereeniging Magistrate Court on Friday, 01 August 2025 for kidnapping, corruption as well as defeating the ends of justice.

On Tuesday, 29 July 2025 members from the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation received information about a Chinese national who had been arrested by officers from the Sharpeville SAPS and were demanding an amount of R3000 as ransom from the family in order to release the victim.

While officers were waiting for suspects to collect the requested ransom, information was received that an amount of a R1000 had been paid by an employee of the victim and the victim was released.

The investigating team proceeded to Sharpeville SAPS where the two suspects were arrested after failing to provide satisfactory reasons as to why the Chinese national was arrested and released with no record.

The pair will make their first appearance before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 01 August 2025.

Provincial Head of the Hawks in Gauteng, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has commended the investigating team for their decisive action as well as the Deputy District Commissioner for working in collaboration with the DPCI and ensuring that the corrupt officials are arrested. Maj Genl Kadwa further said this case demonstrates our unwavering determination to root out corruption as long as the public reports such corrupt activities.
