Media Statement from Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation (HAWKS) WESTERN CAPE: A search and seizure operation on Tuesday morning, comprising members of the Hawks, the SAPS’ K9 and the Department of Fisheries and Forestry resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 23 and 28 in Gordon’s Bay. The suspects, a Chinese and Zimbabwean nationals were found in the house allegedly used as an illegal abalone processing facility. Equipment and over 26015 units of dried abalone valued at over R4.5 million were seized. We shall continue to dismantle clandestine laboratories in intensified endeavours to rid our coast lines of this scourge. The pair is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 29/09/2016 to face charges in contravention of the living marine resources Act.
