Over 500kg dagga seized in Uthukela Cluster, 15 suspects arrested

Police in the Uthukela Cluster have over the weekend seized a total of 524kg of dagga and arrested 15 people in two operations held at Amangwe and Ntabamhlophe. On Saturday, 15 October 2016, Ntabamhlophe SAPS acted on an intelligence driven information regarding people who were alleged to be smuggling drugs. The members proceeded to a house in Shayamoya Location where they found five females and three males from Lesotho busy wrapping the dagga into 24 parcels. The eight suspects aged between 28 and 57 years were arrested and 264kg of dagga was seized. The dagga has a street value of around R 450 000.

While yesterday afternoon, 16 October 2016 at about 17:00, Amangwe SAPS were conducting a crime prevention operation when they came across a suspicious Quantum mini bus driving towards Injesuthi Road. The driver of the vehicle was stopped and the vehicle searched. Members' vigilance paid off when 39 bags of dagga were found inside. Seven suspects aged 21 and 54 were arrested. The dagga which weighs around 260kg has a street value of around R400 000.  All fifteen suspects are due to appear in the Estcourt Magistrates’ Court where they face charges of possession of dagga.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa praised the members for recovering the dagga. “This is an indication that the police are everywhere to make sure that they apprehend all those who are breaking the Law,” he said.
