CAPE TOWN – Saturday 15th of October 2016 saw members from the Western Cape’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in conjunction with an NGO, A21 and other law enforcement agencies partake in the 3rd annual 5km #WalkForFreedom campaign, aimed at highlighting the scourge of Human Trafficking in our country.

The event was held from 07h30 till noon in Sea Point, Cape Town, which was one of the 270 locations around the world. It took a form of a march, with over 500 participants in solidarity of the campaign lacing up their shoes, placed black tape over their mouths, and walked in single-file for 5km to support the noble cause.

Human trafficking as one of the transnational crimes remains a priority for law enforcers. It is intrinsically linked to other crimes, like drug dealing, prostitution, abduction/kidnapping, etcetera. We can never overemphasise the significance of constant engagement with all relevant stake holders including the community at large.

The HAWKS will continue to embark on similar initiatives in order to amplify the seriousness of human trafficking and accompanying crimes.
