Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre The Durban Regional Court each sentenced Eric Sakhumuzi Mbokazi (30) and Mthandeni Prince Mkhize (33) to ten years imprisonment for armed robbery. It is alleged on 05 December 2015, at approximately 07:05, the victim and her brother were on their way to a supermarket in Overport to meet other stokfel members to divide money. While they were walking along Jadhu Place, they were approached by the two accused who at gunpoint demanded and took the money which was in their possession and fled the scene. A case of armed robbery was opened for investigation by Mayville police. An intensive investigation was then conducted by the investigating officer assigned to the docket and the accused were apprehended. Mbokazi and Mkhize made several court appearances until their sentence. “The community members are warned that instead of withdrawing large amounts of cash from the banks to pay out money to their members they should rather transfer the money into their members’ bank accounts. Those members who do not have bank accounts should be encouraged to open them. We hope that this conviction will serve as a strong warning to the perpetrators of crime that crime does not pay,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa Media enquiries: Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane -071 683 6525 kzn.mediacentre@saps.gov.za
