GAUTENG – The mission to recover weapons used in the commission of serious and violent crime proves to be a success as Gauteng police continue to confiscate illegal firearms, this time a significant number of high calibre firearms and ammunition. Police received information about a suspect that is keeping unlicensed firearms and ammunition. On Thursday, 25 June 2020, a search operation consisting of police officers from South African Police Service and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department was executed. During the search, police found an AK 47 assualt rifle with a loaded magazine and ammunition; three different pistols and four magazines plus hoardes of ammunition for both 9mm and 10mm pistols; and scores of ammunition for R1 and R5 rifles. A 37-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He is expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate's Court soon. End
