PRETORIA - Five suspects aged between 28 and 41 have been arrested in a pre-dawn operation on Saturday in connection with the murder of Sergeant Thomas Mashimbye (42). Mashimbye, who was attached to the VIP Section at the Union Buildings, was shot dead in Winterveldt, North of Pretoria, during a house robbery in 2018. It is alleged that Mashimbye was asleep at home with his wife and two children, when they were attacked by three armed men. He was shot several times and he died on the scene. The deceased wife and children were left unharmed. The alleged killers stole some household items and cash then fled the scene. Serious Organised Crime members with help from the Gauteng Provincial Unit, the Tactical Response Team and Ekhuruleni Metro Police, made a major breakthrough after they arrested the suspects at Mogogelo, Winterveldt and Soshanguve East Extension. All five suspects are expected to appear in the Garankuwa Magistrate Court on Monday facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Ends
