JOHANNESBURG CENTRAL - On Monday, 07 March 2022, the Booysens Magistrates' Court sentenced Siphamandla Mapeyi, aged 37, to 15 years' imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances. He is also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Mapeyi and two of his accomplices robbed a house in Kibler Park on the evening of 17 October 2019. The owner of the house returned from work and was confronted by three suspects when he parked his vehicle. The accused tied him and his family before they ransacked the house. Various items were taken which include televisions, laptops, cellphones, jewellery and a vehicle.

The Tracker signal was immediately activated and police attempted to intercept the vehicle on the Golden Highway. The suspects fired shots and the police retaliated until the suspects’ vehicle was successfully intercepted; two suspects jumped out of their vehicle and evaded their arrest. Mapeyi was trapped inside the vehicle as he sustained a gunshot wound. Most of the robbed items were recovered as well as a firearm. Mapeyi remained in custody until he was sentenced yesterday.

The good conviction is a result of quality investigation by Detective Sergeant Mbali Mvelase of SAPS Johannesburg Central Trio team.
