Media Statement NELSPRUIT - The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga has applauded police in Piet Retief after they arrested a 53-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a woman who was reported missing on Monday, 23 May 2022. According to the information, the woman's lifeless body was discovered in a veld by workers employed at Ezinkonjaneni Plantation, on Wednesday 25 May 2022 and immediately notified the police. Upon arrival, the police found the woman's body and summoned medical personnel who certified her dead. The woman's husband is said to have been notified and he identified her upon arrival as Ms Lindokuhle Zwane. An investigation was launched and information led police to the husband's workplace where they conducted a search in his bakkie and found a firearm as well as noticed what looked like bloodstains on the seat and he was then arrested as well as charged. The suspect will appear today, 27 May 2022, at the Piet Retief Magistrate's Court on charges of murder and possession unlicensed firearm. The Provincial Commissioner has expressed her dismay on the ongoing scourge of Gender-Based-Violence / femicide and has vowed that police will do everything possible to arrest the perpetrators. "Over the past weeks the province has been plagued by acts of violence against women and children. We will continue to work hard in fighting this scourge and ensure that those responsible are brought to book," said General Manamela. Ends
