WESTERN CAPE - The Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) based in Bellville together with Crime Intelligence Counter Narcotics and Gangs as well as Public Order Policing (POPS) have yesterday, 10 September 2022 confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R1.3 million and subsequently arrested a 38-year-old male near Somerset West. This come after the team reacted on information about a vehicle suspected to be carrying a consignment of drugs which was en-route to Cape Town. The information was operationalised with a strategic deployment. The team later pulled over the vehicle on Sir Lowry’s pass direction to Somerset West. A search of the vehicle ensued and the members found 33 000 mandrax tablets.
The team also seized the vehicle, a silver Mercedes Benz. The suspect is facing a charge of dealing in drugs and will be making his first appearance on Monday, 12 September 2022 at Strand Magistrate Court.
