NORTHERN CAPE - Today, 14 December 2022, 2 940 new police constables passed out after having successfully completed their basic police development training programme.

The SAPS Training Academies across the country  hosted passing out parades for the 10 000 newly trained police officers which took place over three days, starting on 13 December and ending on 15 December 2022.

The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele was the functionary accompanied by the National Commissioner, General Fanie Masemola and the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola who delivered the Welcome and Vote of Thanks addresses respectively.

In attendance was the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Nomandla Bloem, Senior SAPS Management at National and Provincial level as well as other external stakeholders.

In his Keynote address, General Cele indicated that a ground-breaking 9 203 newly trained police constables have successfully completed the 9 month intensive training programme at various police training academies across the country, including the SANDF training facility in the Northern Cape.

General Masemola in his welcoming address, stated that all trainees were orientated on the SAPS in general, and taken through the SAPS Code of Conduct, covering professional and ethical conduct. They also underwent rigorous training in Law focusing on the Criminal Procedure Act and other related legislation within the policing context.

He also welcomed and congratulated the batch of 2 940 newly trained constables who will be placed at various stations and units across the country.

These new 10 000 cadets will bolster the police capabilities especially now during this festive season and beyond with more boots on the ground to enhance police visibility.
