News: Operation Fiela yielded positive results during this festive season in KZN

KwaZulu-Natal police assisted by Metro police, the Department of Home Affairs and Private Security continued with a zero tolerance approach to crime this festive season through ongoing Operation Fiela activities throughout the province.

In the past two days, joint operations by these members netted a total of 224 arrests for various crimes such as murder, attempted murder, rape, theft, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, assaults, possession of narcotics, housebreakings, and malicious damage to property and for illegally dealing in liquor as well as petty cases.

During these operations, the members recovered 163 grams of dagga, 13 heroine straws, 3 knives, one DVD player, one counterfeit CD, 96 500ml of quartz of beer, 13 200 ml of beer pints, one 9mm pistol as well as one 303 rifle.

The Acting National Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane welcomes the arrest made by the members during this time of the season.

“These operations will continue throughout the province of KwaZulu-Natal during festive season which will include high visibility, roadblocks, suspect raiding and stop and search duties. Members of the public are urged to co-operate with security forces on the ground during this period and ensure that they are complying with the laws of the country,” he said.
